Permanent residence in France

Permanent residence obtaining in France is governed by the Decree of November 2, 1945, as well as the Geneva Convention of 1951.

Permanent residence entitles a foreigner with all the same rights as French citizens have, except for the right to vote and be voted for, and hold public office.

Requirements for permanent residence:

French language proficiency (pass the TCF-DAP / TCF-TP test or any other language test recognized by French legislation);
Lawful residence in the country on the basis of residence permit for more than 5 years, depending on the circumstances;
Long-term employment contract (in certain cases not required)
Successfully pass the test on language proficiency and county’s culture, history and legislation.
Proof of available dwelling (purchased or long-term leased);
Document confirming the availability of permanent and lawful income.
