Lithuanian citizenship - Ferrata Group

The following categories of persons are eligible for Lithuanian citizenship:

Aliens who were Lithuanian nationals before 1940 and their direct descendants (children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren);

By birth of a child:

Children regardless of place of birth, if either parent is a Lithuanian national/resident;
Children born inside Lithuania without the identification of parents or in case their parents are stateless persons;

By naturalization:

An alien should lawfully reside in Lithuania for at least 10 years (under condition of marriage the period of stay may be curtailed to 3 years);
Successfully pass the test on Lithuanian language proficiency and Constitution of the county;
Have a stable and legal income and housing in Lithuania (purchased or leased);
Renounce the citizenship of home country.

The acquisition of nationality is regulated by Lithuanian Citizenship Act of December 05, 1990.

The final decision on the attribution of nationality to the foreign nationals is made by the president of Lithuania.
