Permanent residence in Latvia

• Free health care;
• Social and material support for the loss of work capacity;
• Social and material support on the birth of the child;
• Pension support (in case of contributions to the pension fund);
• Possibility to work and set up a business in Latvia, purchase a real property and vehicles, obtain driving license and travel without a visa to the Schengen countries.
• Invite family members.

• An alien should be over 15 years of age;
• Pass Latvian proficiency test (the lowest required level is A2) with the exception of persons who have reached 65 years of age;
• Pass the test on the Latvian Constitution, history and customs;
• Recite the lyrics of the Latvian national anthem;
• Have stable income of at least € 430 per month (must be documented);
• Have no tax debts;
• Confirm that there was no violation of immigration law during residence in Latvia on the basis of residence permit.

One should apply for permanent residence prolongation to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs once every five years.

• An alien did not submit the full set of documents;
• An alien had committed an offense on the territory of Latvia;
• An alien was outside the country for more than a year (exemptions: education, absence of possibility to come for reasons beyond his control);
• Relocation to another state;
• Lost the permanent source of income;
• Tax arrears and debts for utility payments;
• An alien did not submit the documents for prolongation in time.
